Japan Visa: 2026 Policy, Documents & Fees

Japan visa types, requirements and 2026 changes.

Visa fees rose (single-entry from ¥3,000 to ¥15,000; multiple-entry to ¥30,000). A new 10-year multiple-entry visa was introduced. 3-year multiple-entry conditions were relaxed (2 entries in 5 years). Single-entry is now fully electronic.

Passport, photo, ID and household register, application form, employment certificate, business licence, and 6–12 months of bank flow (10万+ balance recommended).

Shanghai district has the lowest threshold (¥8,000 annual tax for single-entry). Beijing has the highest. Other districts fall in between. Cross-district applications need 6+ months of residence proof.
